PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electrophotographic recording material having characteristics peculiar to photographic printing paper and giving image quality comparable to that of a photograph, in particular image quality excellent in gloss by disposing a layer containing microvoids between a substrate and a toner image receiving layer. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic recording material has a toner image receiving layer on the substrate and a layer containing microvoids between the substrate and the toner image receiving layer. In the microvoids, a solid or liquid material constituting the layer is not present. A gas may exist in the microvoids. The shape of the microvoids is ideally a convex lens shape, that is, a shape formed between two piled concave lenses. The major axial direction of the microvoids is preferably parallel to the surface of the electrophotographic recording material. The microvoids are usually closed cells and pores that a gas or liquid passes through the layer containing the microvoids are not substantially present.
