PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reader which can be large-sized and has reduced cost by simple constitution and which can conduct excellent reading of an original by efficiently radiating heat from a drive device such as an inverter for driving a lamp. SOLUTION: The original reader is provided with a drive section having a xenon lamp 100 for irradiating the original, a reflecting plate 102 for reflecting light from the xenon lamp 100 and the inverter 206 for driving the xenon lamp 100 and irradiates the original with light from the xenon lamp 100 by relatively moving the xenon lamp 100, the reflecting plate 102 and the original. In this original reader, a heat conducting path is formed between the reflecting plate 102 and the inverter 206.
