PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sample-holding apparatus which can easily rotate samples, enables highly accurate measurement and also facilitates the setting of samples. SOLUTION: A metallic supporting plate 11 and a cylindrical holder 12 set detachably via magnets 17 to the supporting plate are provided. The holder includes cylindrical first and second holder elements 13 and 14 with through holes 13a and 14a formed in the axial direction. The first and the second holder elements are made detachable by screw mechanism 13b and 14b set to the side of a joining face. The first and the second holder elements can hold a sample S between opposite joining faces when the first and the second holder elements are coupled by the screw mechanisms. The sample can be illuminated by light when the holder with the sample set thereto is mounted on the supporting plate. When the holder mounted to the supporting plate is rotated about the center axis of the holder, the sample is rotated accordingly.
