PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image display system wherein, with no user adjustment required, the visual reaction level for three primary colors, red, green, and blue, is automatically corrected for the brightness of red, green and blue under the ambient brightness on the spot. SOLUTION: The display system comprises a visual signal decoder which receives a visual signal and decomposes it into three components, red, blue, and green, an optical detector which detects the ambient brightness and outputs a reference signal, a correcting circuit which receives the reference signal for receiving three components, red, blue, and green, a process where the correcting circuit preserves a dark-place visual curve and a bright-place visual curve and three components, red, blue, and green, are corrected with one of the dark-place visual curve and the bright-place visual curve based on the received reference signal, and a process where the three, red, blue, and green, components after correction which are outputted by the correcting circuit are supplied to a display device.
