The outer end (10) of the positioning and striking device is slightly curved and is provided with a horizontal extension (14) for being joined to the main component. A central bore leads to an oval opening (18) at the bent area. The lower end of the part is designed in order to match the shape of the upper end of the bone nail. Both parts can be joined by engaging a downwards pointing extension located at the positioning device with a recess in the surface of the head of the bone nail. The connection is automatically secured by a spring ring (44).
