In the production of spherical particles of an oxidant (I) for propellants and/or explosives, by melting (I) in a container then atomizing using spray apparatus, the melt is held under constant pressure on leaving the melting vessel. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for the process, comprising a melt container for melting (I) and taking up the melt, having an outlet connected to a spray device for atomizing the melt, where the melt (4) at the outlet (2') of the melt container (2) can be held at a constant pressure (p(D)).
