The invention concerns a method and device for illuminating traffic lanes (10, 12) with light beams each derived from a light source. Each light source is placed at a vertical height (h) of not more than one meter and the complete opening of each light beam ranges between a first angle (d1) of not less than 45° and a second angle (d2) not more than 88°, the first and second angles being defined relative to a vertical axis (X).
