The method involves supplying air (ZL) to fuel cell arrangement (2) which is cathode-sided flowed through the multiple fuel cells (3) and discharged afterwards again from the fuel cell arrangement. The oxygen fraction in discharge gas (AL) is determined and gas leakage is closed on the basis of the oxygen fraction. The gas leakage is closed by a comparison of the oxygen fraction with a pre-determined limit value. An independent claim is also included for a device for detection of gas leakage in fuel cell arrangement comprises multiple fuel cells.
