PURPOSE:To obtain an antibacterial agent useful for dentrifrice, gargle or deodorant, etc., widely having antibacterial effect including cause fungus of acne vulgaris or periodontal disease, containing totarol. CONSTITUTION:Totarol [that is: 4b,5,6,7,8,8a,9,10-octahydro-1-isopropyl-4b,8,8- trimethyl-(4bs-trans)-2-phenanthrenol] which is natural substance contained in plant of Podocarpaceae, also possible to be synthesized and expressed by the formula is contained in the aimed antibacterial agent as an active ingredient. The compound expressed by the formula shows excellent antibacterial activity to Gram-positive fungus, especially streptococcus mutans which is Gram-positive anaerobics cell and regarded as cause fungus of periodontal disease such as carious tooth, or propionibacterium acnes regarded as cause fungus of acne. |
