The invention relates to a material for producing an electro-optical shutter device. Said material includes: - a host nematic liquid crystal; - at least one guest chiral dopant; - and a guest black dichroic coloring agent. The birefringence (Δn) of the host nematic liquid crystal is greater than 0.20. The concentration of at least one chiral dopant is adjusted so that the material has a pitch within the 500 nm to 800 nm range. The concentration of the guest black dichroic coloring agent is between 2 to 4 wt% of said material. The dichroic ratio of the guest black dichroic coloring agent is greater than or equal to 8.
