Method for reducing the viscosity of an epihalohydrin polymer comprises mixing the polymer at 135-205 deg. C with at least 0.001% wt. peroxide, pref. benzoyl peroxide, the (aralkyl) peroxide (I), or diperoxide (II). The polymer is free of ethylenically unsatd. linkages, and consist of homopolymers of epihalohydrin, or copolymers of epihalohydrin with another epoxide, or with an oxetane. R' and R6 = aryl; R2-R5 = H or C1-3 alkyl; R7 = arylene or alkylene; and CR = C4-12 t-alkyl. The polymer is pref. polyepichlorohydrin, or a a copolymer of epichlorohydrin with epoxyethene or triethylene oxide. |
