1,251,513. Coating sheet material. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 28 Oct., 1968 [30 Oct., 1967], No. 51054/68. Heading B2E. A web consisting of at least two lengths of material joined end to end by a spliced joint is coated by forming or treating the joint so as substantially to prevent air from being entrained in the coating material. The spliced joint may be formed from a splicing tape which has its downstream edge bevelled or the downstream edge of the tape and the adjacent web surface may be treated to form a tapered transition, which may be filled with oilyhydropholeic material or rubber cement. The spliced joint may be treated by a coating not easily wetted by the coating material, such as felt-tipped marker pen solution, an oily material, such as a solution of oil and methyl ethyl ketone and rubber cement. |
