The door of a metallurgical furnace com prises a hollow box 1 through which coolant is circulated and within which a plurality of fireresistent blocks 2 are disposed, said blocks being threaded on to metal rods 3 which lie adjacent the floor of the box and which extend substantially over the width of the door box but are not metallically connected to it. The space between the blocks is filled with a refractory cement mass 5. The blocks can rest either directly on the box-floor or on an intermediate layer 4 of fire-resistant material and can have a cross-section which progressively increases from the end adjacent the floor to the end remote from it or be of prismatic outer surface with one or more side-wall grooves parallel to the floor of the door box. |
