Novel 2 - methyl - 3 - {3 - (4 - phenylpiperazin - 1 - yl) - 2 - hydroxy - propyl}- quinazolin-4-one is prepared by reaction of 1- phenyl-piperazine with 2-methyl-3-(3-bromo-2- hydroxypropyl) - quinazolin - 4 - one or 2- methyl - 3 - (2,3 - epoxypropyl) - quinazoline-4- one, which latter compound may be prepared in situ by reaction of 2-methyl-quinazoline-4-one with epichlorohydrin. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise the novel compound together with a suitable carrier and are administered orally as analgesics and antitussives. |
