A process for preparing fluidizable polyepoxide coating compositions comprises the steps of (1) mixing 100 parts by weight of at least one glycidyl polyether of 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane having an average epoxy eq. wt. of 400-4000 with 0.1-25 parts by weight of a polymeric fatty acid at a temperature of 90-180 DEG C, (2) adding 0.1-10 parts by weight of a base in aqueous solution at 80-120 DEG C. with rapid stirring and emulsifying, (3) cooling the resin emulsion obtained and allowing the particles to solidify, and (4) separating the resin powder from the cooled suspension. Inactive or slow-acting (at 90-120 DEG C.) curing agents, catalysts, pigments, fillers and/or thixotropic agents may be added in step (1) or later. Other curing agents may be added after the preparation of the powder.ALSO:Pulverulent epoxy resin compositions which have been prepared by (1) mixing a glycidyl polyether of 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane with a polymeric fatty acid at 90-180 DEG C (2) adding an aq. solution of a base at 80-120 DEG C with rapid stirring and emulsifying, (3) cooling the emulsion and allowing the particles to solidify and (4) separating the resin powder (see Division C3) may be applied to surfaces such as steel by means of a fluidized bed, a compressed air spray gun, or electrostatically. |
