A girdle or panty girdle has an abdominal panel symmetrical about a vertical centre line each side portion thereof having more stretch in a direction sloping up and out and less stretch in a direction sloping down and out and these portions have less resistance to slipping on their inner surfaces in a direction sloping up and out and more resistance to slipping in a direction sloping down and out. A girdle according to the invention as in Fig. 2 has a body portion 10 of two-way stretch material, preferably powernet, a kite-shaped panel 14 of one-way stretch material, stretchable vertically, and tapes 21 and 22, preferably about an inch wide spaced about half an inch apart, which are longitudinally stretchable only are sewn parallel to the lower edges of the kite shaped panel. The edges of this panel 15 (16) are preferably 35 degrees to 40 degrees from the vertical and edges 17, 18 are normal to these. |
