1316838 Knitting machines CROMPTON & KNOWLES CORP 23 June 1970 [23 June 1969] 30527/70 Heading D1C In a warp knitting machine having yarn guides 18 and reciprocating knitting needles 14, the yarn passes over a tension member 36 connected by at least one spring 32 to a support member 26 which is movable between two positions in which the stress on the spring remains substantially the same by actuating means operable in time with the movement of the needles so as to release or take up yarn according to whether it is or is not being consumed by the needles. As shown, a shaft 26 is mounted in bearings 28 and carries uprights 40 supporting a bar 42 just behind springs 32. A motor M drives a shaft (52) Fig. 3 (not shown) carrying an eccentric (50) which operates the needle bars, and, two eccentrics (56) which operate two bell crank levers 63 which move bearings 28. In a modification, tension member 80 carried on compression spring 82 is supported on one end of a lever 84 whose other end carries a cam follower 88 engaging a cam track 90 in a cam 92.
