982,992. Determining moisture content. CONTROLS CO. OF AMERICA. May 17, 1961 [May 26, 1960; July 26, 1960], No. 17967/61. Heading G1N. In a laundry drier the voltage drop across electrodes 66, 64 which are supplied with rectified A.C. through a resistor 48, rises as the clothes dry to trigger a switching diode 40 and effect energization of a relay B which opens the control circuit established by relay A in response to the momentary closing of switch 10 and interrupts drying. Push button insertable resistors 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, provide for obtaining different degrees of dryness and a capacitor 74 prevents false operation by momentary interruption of the circuit between the electrodes. A high value resistor may be connected in series with the electrodes to ensure eventual shut down when the wetness control resistors are cleared; and a second capacitor may be provided to be switched in parallel with capacitor 74 to provide further protection against false operation with small loads in the dryer. Alternative control by a timing circuit comprising a capacitor switched in place of the drum electrodes is described for controlling fluffing. Hot air may be blown through. |
