Adjusting the height of the slag column in a - cupola furnace during smelting

Iron and slag flows off continuously from the furnace through channels. The height of the slag column in the furnace is determined by the counter pressure occurring outside the furnace chamber by the discharged iron and/or slag. The counter pressure in the furnace, which is overcome by the slag and gas in the furnace, is varied outside the furnace frame during the furnace operation. Spec. the degree of saturation of molten iron in the furnace is thus altered.
