Although the dielectric proper is of plastic material, one of the electrodes is of sandwich design, each face of an absorbent insulating material being metallised and the metallising short circuited so that the insulator between the layers is free of any electric field. The surface of this sandwich electrode permits the ingress of the impregnant. The interlayer is paper and the counter electrode is formed by metallising one face of the plastic dielectric. This itself consists of two layers of different plastics, that on which the electrode metallising is carried being more temp. stable and thicker than the other. |
