A process for the separation of high purity 2,6-diphenyl-phenol from a mixture of 2,6-disubstituted phenols by fractional crystallization. The process is characterized by at least one crystallization stage from a solvent system comprising a mixture of an aliphatic solvent and an aromatic solvent. By the process of the invention, 2,6-diphenylphenol having a purity of at least 99.8% can be separated from a mixture of phenols using only two crystallization stages.
