Gases such as halogens, chlorine, chlorine monoxide and ozone are detected by drawing them by a fan across an ionisation gap. An oscillator applies to this an alternating voltage of 11-17 kHz. The output signals derived from the ionization changes caused by the presence of gas are indicated by a Schmitt trigger and a relay and produces an optical and acoustical warning signal. |
