A motor vehicle steering wheel comprises an inherently stiff steering wheel rim and spokes attachable to a steering column with the interposition of a deformation member 4, coil springs 13 loaded by movements about a joint 11 being disposed between the hub and spokes structure 12 and the deformation member 4 so that the deformation member 4 is only deformed after a determined force on or travel of the structure 12 has been exceeded. A second deformation member 14 may be provided on the other side of the hub (bottom half of Fig. 3). In another embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown) the coil springs are replaced by a spring ring (3). In a further embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the deformation member (16) is contained within an elastic intermediate member (18) so that it is deformed only after a determined deformation of the elastic member has taken place. |
