Laminates are produced from thin layers (I) of elastomer material and thin layers (II) of heaat conducting material, e.g. metal, by extending the periphery of layers (II) over the periphery of layers (I) at a distance from each other, in order to form a number of air splits around the periphery of the laminate, and maintaining the layers (I) sufficiently thin that the depth of the space between adjacent layers (II) outside the periphery of layers (I) is so dimensioned relative to the height of the intermediate space that combustion in this space uses more oxidising agent from the surrounding atmosphere than is introduced into this space from the atmosphere, the combustion thus being extinguished at the periphery by a failure of oxidising agent.
