1416213 Wire drawing lubricants PENNWALT CORP 30 July 1973 [4 Aug 1972] 36087/73 Heading C5F A soap-based dry wire-drawing lubricant is produced by drying a soap-based dry wiredrawing formulation at an elevated temperature with continuous agitation to form an agglomerate containing 1-12% by weight of water, cooling the agglomerate to room temperature or below, grinding the cooled agglomerate to form a powder and thereafter drying the powder to a free moisture content of 0À75% or less by heating to a temperature below its melting point in a moist atmosphere whilst subjecting the powder to a gentle rolling motion. The formulation suitably comprises 30-95 wt. per cent soap (e.g. Na, Ca, Al, Zn or Ba soap of a C 12-22 fatty acid such as tallow fatty acid), 5-70% filler or thickening agent (e.g. borax, soda ash, lime, clay, mica, calcium carbonate or talc), 0-35% film strengthener and/or friction reducer (e.g. sulphur or molybdenum disulphide) and 0-5% of a rust preventative, dye or perfume (e.g. sodium nitrite).
