Solid-phase immunoassays for serum components are carried out using a reagent plate having a series of wells perforated at the bottom, and a sample plate having corresp. wells sized to receive the wells of the reagent plate. The process comprises (a) introducing immobilised antigen into the wells of the reagent plate, (b) introducing test and control serum samples into the wells of the sample plate, (c) inserting the reagent plate into the sample plate to allow reaction between the immobilised antigen and the serum components, (d) removing the reagent plate and immersing it in a buffer or stopping-reagent soln., (e) transferring the reagent plate to one or more flat dishes contg. wash soln. to remove unbound serum components, (f) placing the reagent plate in a flat dish contg. a soln. of a labelled reagent capable of reacting with the bound serum components, (g) rinsing the reagent plate, and (h) measuring the activity (fluorescence, enzyme activity or radioactivity) of the bound label. The process is esp. useful for allergy screening. The process eliminates laborious manual pipetting operations.
|
