PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a powerful hydraulic installation for the purpose of winding by tack welding a taper plate to the outside surface of a pipe body then rotating the pipe body, bringing the taper plate into tight contact with the outside surface of the pipe body by the own weight of the pipe body and winding a thin steel sheet on the pipe body by the own weight of the pipe body by the similar method. CONSTITUTION:The taper plate 4 having the length of 1/4 the circumference is tack-welded to the outside surface of the pipe body 1 over the entire length thereof and thereafter the pipe body 1 is rotated clockwise and the taper plate 8 is supported on rollers 3-6. The plate 8 is brought into tight contact with the outside surface of the body 1 by the own weight of the body 1 and is tack- welded to said surface over the entire length. The 1st filler plate 11a is thereafter tack-welded to one end 8a of the plate 8 in contact therewith and thereafter the body 1 is rotated counterclockwise to support the plate 11a on the rollers 3-6. The plate 11a is brought into tight contact with the outside surface of the body 1 by the own weight of the body 1 and is tack-welded to the outside surface over the entire length thereof.
