PURPOSE:To minimize an electrode height and to prevent exposing of electrodes from an electrolyte by disposing an electrode pair consisting of disk-shaped positive and negative electrodes having a suitable diameter and the laminate of separators disposed between the two electrodes to the bottom end of a circular cylindrical support. CONSTITUTION:The positive electrode 1 and the negative electrode 2 are formed by packing an active material into the grids which consist of a lead alloy, have a disk-shaped outside shape and have internally the spaces for packing the active material. The laminate disposed with the separators 5 is disposed between such positive and negative electrodes 1 and 2 in such a manner that the negative electrode 2 is positioned on the lower side. The lead peroxide 3 of a positive electrode active material and sponge-like lead 4 of a negative electrode active material are formed by packing pasty lead powder in the grids, then subjecting the same to electrical chemical conversion. The diameters of the positive and negative electrodes 1, 2 are determined at the size nearly equal to the root diameter of threads for mounting to a lead storage battery to assure the max. sectional area of the electrode; in addition, the ratio h/R of the height (h) and diameter R thereof is confined to <=0.5. The electrode height is minimized in this way so that the exposing of the electrodes from the electrolyte is prevented. |
