PURPOSE:To visually confirm the position of a driver's own vehicle with ease by controlling the superimposing display in accordance with the selection of said driver so that only the present position of said driver's vehicle is indicated. CONSTITUTION:An operational processor 2 of the position of one's own vehicle estimates the running distance based on signals from a vehicle speed sensor 3 and the present position of the vehicle based on terrestrial magnetism azimuth angle signals from a terrestrial magnetism sensor 1. The running distance and the present position are stored in a shared memory 4. The map information data to be displayed on a CRT 9 are stored in a CD.ROM 7. A display processor 5 reads an image of the map information data from the ROM 7 and writes into a frame buffer 8. Simultaneously, the display processor 5 changes the present position and running locus of the vehicle obtained from the memory 4 to dots and writes in the buffer 8. Accordingly, the image of the map information data, the present position and the running locus are shown in an overlapping manner. When a mode switch 6 is turned ON, it is so regarded that the driver desires to see the position of the vehicle rather than the running locus. Therefore, the display of the running locus is stopped, and the map and present position are overlappingly indicated. |
