PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method and device which smoothly changes the transmission and reception style of a sound from a computer corresponding to the sound environment of an avatar of a computer operator in virtual communication environment (cyberspace) of a computer network. SOLUTION: When the avatar stands on the platform 20, a sound input module 14 outputs the input of a microphone 17 to the network 3 through a communication module 8 and a sound communication style selection module 11 stops the output of the speaker 16. When the avatar is on an audience seat 21, a connection is so made that a sound output module 13 performs output to the speaker 16 through the sound communication style selection module 11 and the output from the microphone to the communication module 8 is stopped. When the avatar is positioned in a forum zone 23, the sound communication style selection module 11 enables the output of a received sound to the speaker 16 and the output of the microphone 17 to the communication module 8. When the avatar is positioned in an area 22 wherein neither transmission nor reception is possible, sound transmission to and reception from the network 3 are stopped.
