Armoured vehicle infrared protection system - incorporates cowl over engine with continuous heat-insulating lining
摘要
The protective system reduces IR radiating from an armoured transport vehicle, this having an air inlet above the engine chamber leading directly to a radiator with centrifugal fan. Air outlets are provided in one or both sidewalls. The engine chamber (1) is covered by a cowl (4) having a continuous heat-insulating lining (10) joining onto that (11) in the hull (1a). Air inlets and outlets and an exhaust outlet (31) in the cowl pass through the lining and are in a horizontal plane (X-X). They are masked at top and sides, and are aimed towards the ground. At the radiator inlet (6) baffles (14,15) spaced apart form between them a labyrinth-type annular port (13). USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple protection system for armoured vehicle requires no additional power or space.
