An appliance for drying washing incorporates a drive unit, which sets the device on which the washing is suspended into horizontal vibrations. As a result the items to be dried are maintained in a wave movement running from top to bottom during the whole of the drying process. The size and the speed of the movement waves can be altered. ADVANTAGE - In existing installations for hanging up the washing, the washing is not moved actively during the drying process. The invention dries washing quickly, gently, with low energy consumption and without creases.
