The invention concerns a process for the generation and storage of digitized threshold density values for the scanning of a half-tone image pattern, in particular in the form of a colour separation (planes). The threshold density values in a sector of a raster are stored as store words in at least one data store in accordance with a dot function, several dots (raster points) which each include a number of store words are periodically disposed next to and over each other forming a multiple-reference cell (super cell) in the sector. For the sector data-store words, a sorted sequence is determined tailored to the dot function and threshold density values are allocated to the words in the data store in accordance with the position of the word in the sorted sequence, and not in exclusively linear fashion.
