The breaker has a movable contact piece (1) cooperating with a fixed contact piece (2) each carried by a sectional spring loaded contact arm (5,6). The part (3,4) of each contact arm (5,6) carrying the contact piece (1,2) is pivoted to allow electro dynamic opening of the contacts (1,2) against the force of the bias springs (9,10). The contact opening is initially accelerated with a rapid increase in the angle between their contact faces. Pref. the movable contact arm (5) has a coil spring (9) acting between two spaced fixing points (11,11a) attached to the pivoted end seciton (3) of the arm (5) and the adjacent arm section respectively.
