PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively transmit the service request information with no intervention of the modem connection by detecting the abnormality of a peripheral device of a network and transmitting a packet including the status information acquired against the detected abnormality to a remote service system via the network. SOLUTION: When a network copying machine 11 detects the abnormality that requires the service, the machine 11 outputs the information on the detected abnormality and the configuration and/or status information on the machine 11 itself to an NIB(network interface board) 14. Receiving the information, the NIB 14 retrieves the information on a user and a contact person of the user and stores the retrieved information in an HTML (hypertext production language) file. Then the NIB 14 produces a data packet including the HTML file and the destination filed showing a service system and transmits the packet to a work station 1 via a LAN 15, a router 7, a world wide web 6 and a router 2 respectively.
