<p>A shoe (10) comprising an upper (11) and multiple part sole (12). An inner sole (16) engages the plantar surface of a foot. A shock absorbing midsole (17) underlies the inner sole (16) from a location underlying the toes to a location at the base of a heel (28) of the foot. An outer sole (20) includes a first portion (21) under the forefoot to provide a second shock absorbing layer and to define a landing surface (22). A thin, relatively rigid portion underlies the heel (28) and corresponding portion of the inner sole (16) to support the heel (28). This portion is elevated above the landing surface (22) to inhibit heel landings and strikes.</p> |
