This original method is used to produce an oxygen sensor. It has a cup-shaped solid electrolyte component (10) with interior (100) and opening (104). There is an outer electrode on the external surface of this component. An internal electrode is located on an internal surface. In the new method, a nozzle (3) with a paste ejection bore (30) is used to form the inner electrode. The front of the nozzle is inserted into the interior and rotated relatively, moving it along the inner surface to deposit the paste as it is forced out of the nozzle. The nozzle is then removed, and the solid electrolyte component is baked. In rotation, the nozzle retreats. A heater is inserted, following baking. Nozzle, bore and/or component may be rotated. The internal electrode comprises a reaction electrode and a conductive section. The latter is formed after firing and removal of the internal electrode. Further details of construction of the internal electrode by relative movements of the bore and solid electrolyte component, and variations based on similar principles are described. A chemical plating reaction is also employed.
