PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to obtain a desired extra length of a cable core of a self-supporting type cable provided with an extra length without the need for replacing parts such as sheaves. SOLUTION: The cable 1 having a sheath 4 with a Dharma-like cross section is formed by applying a batch coating on a supporting wire 2 and the cable core 3, and the cable 1 is cooled while feeding the supporting wire 2 and the cable core 3 of the cable 1 along the circumference of the sheave 20 at different circumferential speeds and imparting the extra length to the cable core 3. The sheave 20 enables the extra length being imparted to the cable core 3 to be made variable by regulating the inclined angleθof sheaves segments 28, thereby changing the circumferential speed of the cable core 3 with the circumferential speed of the supporting wire 2.
