Apparatus for compressing a gaseous medium has a post condenser (40) arranged outside of the engine chamber. Gas sucked through the useable side of a compressor (20) is compressed from a low pressure, especially atmospheric pressure, to a prescribed final pressure, precooled by a heat exchanger (30) using the inner thermal energy before adding to the consuming point, and further cooling in a post condenser (40).
