PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sizing agent having excellent resin impregnation not only into an epoxy resin but also into a radical polymerization-based resin and excellent bond strength between these matrix resins and carbon fiber by making the sizing agent include an epoxy compound containing a specific functional group as a main component. SOLUTION: This sizing agent comprises a compound containing a functional group of the formula (R is H or an alkyl) and an epoxy group as a main component. The sizing agent and a nonionic surfactant in the weight ratio of 95/5-70/30, preferably 85/15 to 75/25 are dispersed into water to give a sizing agent solution. The sizing agent solution is imparted to a carbon fiber by a means such as a roller impregnation method, a roller contact method, etc., heat-dried to give a reinforced fiber suitable for a fiber-reinforced resin composition.
