PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid fuel combustion device which performs excellent vaporization. SOLUTION: A wick 29 consists of a pleat 302 made of a cloth-like fibers having good thermal conductivity and formed into a shape of a rod with a hollow ofϕd1 diameter being left at the center thereof and the pleat portion being left radial so as to have a property of ventilation of evaporated gas and permeability of liquid oil, while the pleat 302 is rendered to have the number of peaks ranging from 22 to 30. The wick 29 is allowed to be sufficiently in contact with the inner wall of an evaporation chamber by its outer peripheral portion having a diameter ofϕD. Further, the ratio di/D ofϕD andϕd1 is rendered to range from 20 to 65%. Thus heat supplied from heat sources outside the evaporator, i.e., an evaporator heater 48 and a heat receiving fin 45, is transferred to the central portion of the evaporation chamber through the linear portion of the radial pleat portion, i.e. through the shortest path, of the wick 29. As a result, kerosene is actively evaporated even at the central portion of the evaporation chamber and generation of tar can be effectively suppressed.
