PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of the conventional telecine device employing a mechanical shutter that has required a complicated mechanism of an optical device and also needed a dark room. SOLUTION: A sprocket 2 intermittently feeds a movie film 6 with a prescribed period and sets a stop state for each frame of the movie film 6. An image pickup device 9 opens its built-in electronic shutter when the movie film 6 stops at its image pickup position and converts a still picture of one frame of the movie film 6 formed on the image pickup device 9 by an optical device 8 emitting a light to the movie film 6 into an electric signal. When the conversion is finished, the electronic shutter is closed and the movie film 6 is moved to a succeeding frame. Similarly, in the succeeding frame, when the succeeding frame stops at the image pickup position of the image pickup device 9, the electronic shutter of the image pickup device 9 is open to obtain a movie film image pickup signal of the succeeding frame. Since the image pickup device 9 has an electronic shutter function, no mechanical shutter is required for the optical device 9.
