PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture an aluminum foil for an electrode of an electrolytic capacitor for medium to high voltage, in order to improve the electrostatic capacity by enhancing the surface roughening rate. SOLUTION: The aluminum foil to be surface roughened has purity of 99.980% or higher, and has 30% or more by an average area rate of the region having high dislocation density, in which the dislocation density of the surface is 5 pieces/μm<2> or more. Then, when the foil is subjected to the roughening treatment, a high roughening rate is obtained because uniform etching pits are formed in high density. When the aluminum foil is used for an electrode of an electrolytic capacitor, a small size of electrolytic capacitor can be obtained because of high electrostatic capacity per unit area of the electrode.
