A field sequential image display device and an image displaying method thereof are provided to improve image quality of the display device by preventing brightness non-uniformity and color breakup. A field sequential image display device includes a color coordinate converter(110), a display panel(120), and an optical source driver(130). The color coordinate converter analyzes image state information of plural input basic color image signals representing one image, and converts the input basic color image signal to basic color image signals and at least one predetermined color image signal by using the image state information. The display panel displays the converted image signals. The optical source driver sequentially drives optical sources corresponding to color components of the converted image signal. The color coordinate converter includes a first level determining unit, a second level determined unit, and a transforming unit.
