A mobile communication terminal having a broadcasting program information display function and a method using the terminal are provided to offer information on a broadcasting program while the broadcasting program is on standby, thereby shortening a user's sensory standby time. A receiver(210) receives broadcasting programs and broadcasting information on each channel. A storage(220) stores the received broadcasting information on each channel. An input unit(230) generates a signal for selecting a channel. An information extractor(240) searches broadcasting information of a particular channel of the stored broadcasting information according to the channel selecting signal, and extracts particular broadcasting information from the searched broadcasting information. A display(250) displays broadcasting program information on the selected channel according to the extracted information. A controller(260) controls the display to display the information on the selected channel according to the extracted information, during a standby time taken for displaying the received broadcasting program.
