A patch file generating method and a computer readable recording medium storing a program for performing the same are provided to significantly reduce a size of the patch file by reducing the number of add commands. A patch file generating method comprises the following steps of: setting a work window of the same size as a file having a big size among a reference file and a target file(302); generating at least one diff command by performing LCS(Longest Common String) matching in a predetermined proceeding direction within the window(310); and generating the patch file including the at least one diff command(312).
