The dashboard reinforcement consists at least partly of a beam (4) made from a metal strip folded lengthwise by rollers to achieve the required profile, containing at least two adjacent parallel channels that can both be closed, or one closed and one open and having O-shaped and U-shaped cross-sections respectively. The two channels have a common partition wall between them, and the beam containing them can be of variable thickness. The open channel of the beam can be made to receive air conditioning ducts (42, 48).
