The present invention provides a laser-sensitive recording material, whic h comprises a substrate being coated with a recording layer and an undercoat ing layer, wherein the recording layer undergoes a colour change upon heat t reatment produced by laser irradiation and wherein the undercoating layer co mprises a pigment with the proviso that the system of the recording layer th at undergoes a colour change upon heat treatment produced by laser irradiati on does not comprise an organic leuco dye and an organic colour developer, a process for its preparation, a process for marking the laser-sensitive reco rding material and the marked laser-sensitive recording material.
