A receiving device comprises a screen information generating unit, an interrupt signal generating unit, and a control unit. The screen information generating unit manages a first plane capable of containing moving image information and a second plane capable of containing first static information and second static information and generates screen information by synthesizing the first plane and the second plane. The interrupt signal generating unit generates an interrupt signal. The control unit controls the screen information generating unit, gives at least either the first static information or the second static information to the second plane when the interrupt signal is generated, starts a screen-saver operation for changing the first static information after a first predetermined period from a point in time associated with the generation of the interrupt signal when a moving image area on a screen is equal to the entire screen, and starts a screen-saver operation for changing the second static information after a second predetermined period from the point in time associated with the generation of the interrupt signal when the moving image area on the screen is smaller than the entire screen.
