The present invention discloses a process of producing formic acid by the reaction of phosphoric acid extracted and sodium formate, isopropyl ether is used to extract Wet-process phosphoric acid at first, and then the extract is added into the reactor and reacted with sodium formate. The volatility of isopropyl ether is used to control the temperature below 80 °C during the reaction, thereby limiting the occurrence of side reactions and increasing the yield and concentration of the formic acid, thus the process can produce food-grade formic acid of 98%. The process uses the Wet-process phosphoric acid as the raw material for producing formicacid.
